Google My Business is Google’s platform for managing your business listing as it appears on their search results and maps.  You can (and should) keep use GMB for the following:

  • Address
  • Hours
  • Description
  • Website Link
  • Replies to Reviews
  • Posts & Events

By keeping this info up-to-date you will ensure that people looking for a church, or your church in particular, will find the information they need to contact you, visit your website, and visit your church location.

Claiming Your Google My Business

Claiming your business listing for your church on Google is an easy process. 

  • You'll need a Google account. If you don't have one already, or just one one dedicated to your church, create one for free.
  • Search for your church name on Google. You should see your church displayed as a GMB.
  • Click claim your business.
  • Follow the steps to verify you own the business by email, phone, or postcard.

If your business has already been claimed you can still gain access to it. Here is an alternate way to claim your business which will work whether or not your church listing has already been claimed.

  • Go to business.google.com/create
  • Type in your church name & select your church.
  • You'll see a message showing you who owns this business. Although the complete email isn't shown, the partial address will hopefully help you identify who has claimed your GMB listing.
  • Click request access.
  • If possible follow up with the person who currently manages this listing.
